Holyoaks Stills Shoot

Not quite as excitiing as it may sound. We spent a few hours down in Park Royal Studios making a small section of flats shaped into a wall and ceiling and then the pyrotech guys fired fire balls onto them while 4 photographers snapped away. This was for them to be able to blend the fire pattern and create the Holyoaks billboard posters where the characters are shown to be evolving out of the fire.
Oh and we also made a small cloud for a separate project

Misfits Series 2 Advert

Working for Skyhook, I helped make the features for the last 20 seconds of the 'Misfits Series 2' advert, we were making flats that would be used as cut aways of ground section to allow the filming to go underground to a character that has been buried alive. (Advert video Below)

The Pond, a JJB creation

I was told by Guy and Nicky that they were interested in having a pond for their garden and was asked if I would be happy to build it for them. Here are some pictures of the process into the pond build, its still standing and now is home to 6 small fish and a bunch of plants.

Set Construction: Jamie Beaton, Rich Hall, Rachel Durance, Emily Croxford, Sarah-Louise Waterhouse

For this production I was chosen by the course tutors to work alone but in collaboration with Director (Ian Smith) of 'The Television Workshop' , a very successful and widely admired drama group based in Nottingham and comprising of members for ages 7 -21. These young performers have performed on stage and on television and I was given the opportunity to design, build and run two performances to showcase their work to the industry that funds the group and the families of the children involved. The performance was comprised of around 20 short sketches intertwined with projected videos of various television programmes that the children had worked in. My personal brief aim was to build and aesthetically attractive set with multiple acting areas but something that never suggested as specific location that would work for one sketch but then not for another. The material hung from the ceiling and the variety of obelisks (which ranged from 1m to 3.5m tall) allowed for performer interactions and gave them routes by which to create journeys within their movement.

Skills

At university i was able to become Treasurer and then President of a music society which allowed me to learn to be in charge of a group of members, dealing with financial requirements, the university and with students. It allowed me to use my organisational skills and confidence to provide a popular society with events and socials.

I'm hard working, organised, prompt, flexible with plenty of experience in construction for Theatre and Film. Experienced with a high number of machine tools and skills in building. Good at problem solving.

About Me

I started playing with Lego, Mecano and other small models and pottery as a child and have now progressed through education and onto Nottingham Trent where I studied Theatre Design receiving a 2:1 BA(Hons). Here I was able to learn and improve my building skills. I worked for Rocket Scenery in Nottingham, building sets for theatres across the country. During the course I designed, built and stage managed two performances and  was construction manager for a third, all built for external clients. During this time I have also been working for two London based Art Directors on a variety of projects from:
Promos
Adverts
Music videos
Idents and Short Films
I'm now keen to get into the set building scene and or a theatre workshop to push things a bit further.

This Blog is a way for me to show the work I have done allow others to view my progression as I continue to Build.
